I am a big fan of Alteya Organics as a brand and recently I’ve been testing their rejuvenating eye serum, containing the famous Bulgarian Rose Oil and other plant extracts beneficial for the delicate skin around the eye area. I was particularly interested in seeing whether this serum will do anything for fine lines under my eyes – something that has started bothering me more lately so I am really keen on finding a solution that will help to soften these lines a bit.
Rose Otto Restoring Eye Serum from Alteya Organics sounds like something that could really help with fine lines. It’s claiming to “instantly revitalize and clarify tired eyes, dissolve fine lines and wrinkles, and form a protective film around the fragile eye area.” That’s one main reason why I wanted to give it a try and see whether it works for me. I picked it as part of LoveLula Accredited Blogger Program (gifted product) and tested it for a few months before finally coming to a conclusion about this product. Ingredients
This eye serum is made with organic plant oils and extracts which are rich in antioxidants and nutrients that help to regenerate the skin, slow down the ageing process and boost collagen production.
This is an oil-based serum containing no water so it’s not something that absorbs quickly and you may not want to use it in the morning when you are in a rush to apply make-up.
Here are some of its powerful ingredients and their properties:
- Organic Bulgarian Rose Oil (Rose Otto) – good for hydrating the skin, reducing wrinkles and increasing skin firmness. It also has healing and calming properties.
- Organic Hemp seed oil – it moisturises the skin without clogging the pores. Packed full of nutrients that will help to improve skin elasticity and protect from the environment.
- Organic Rosehip oil – well known for its anti-ageing properties, containing natural retinol. Learn more about it here.
- Organic Chamomile Oil – hydrating and soothing essential oil with anti-ageing properties, helps to regenerate the skin.
Other oils that you will find in this serum include macadamia seed oil, apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, calendula herbal oil, argan oil and more. Each type of oil has its own purpose and offers certain skin benefits.
My experience and review
The serum comes in a dark 10ml glass bottle which is perfect for protecting delicate ingredients inside from harmful light exposure.
The pipette dropper makes it easy to squeeze out only the required amount – one drop is enough for both eyes. Needing only that little for one application means that this small bottle will last you for a long time.
How to use
Once I get one drop of oil out of the bottle, I rub it between two fingers and then gently dab the oil around my eye area. It will not absorb straight away like that but if you are not in a rush you can easily leave it and the skin will slowly take whatever it needs. Alternatively, you could gently spread it so that it absorbs more quickly but it’s always recommended to tap/dab it lightly due to the sensitive skin around the eyes.
You should use it at least twice a day to get results – in the morning and in the evening.
The scent
The scent is really lovely, I can definitely smell the rose oil but it’s not overpowering. It’s a gentle rose scent which does not linger on your skin once applied.
The results
To be honest, when I first started using Rose Otto Restoring Eye Serum, I was not expecting the results immediately. From my previous experience, I already know that any significant changes to the skin take time and that I should be patient, especially if I want to tackle fine lines.
So I’ve been applying the serum religiously every day, twice a day for weeks and weeks and then one day I looked into the mirror and noticed that it’s actually doing something good to my eye area. It was about 6-7 weeks when I noticed that my fine lines appeared to be softened and not as prominent as before. I wouldn’t say the difference was huge but it was a slight improvement.
The serum didn’t “dissolve fine lines” as stated on LoveLula website and I am not sure that it would actually dissolve them, even if I apply it for many more months to come but it seemed to help a little bit.
Setting fine lines aside, what I really like about Alteya Organics’ eye serum is that it does a very good job at keeping my eye area well moisturised. It really helps to improve any dryness and prevents dry skin.
I would be tempted to try using it in combination with some kind of eye cream on top to see whether I get better results but for now, I will continue using it in a hope that will make a little bit more difference to my fine lines when used for a few more months.
The verdict
Rose Otto Restoring Eye Serum contains many anti-ageing ingredients that will help to transform your skin when used for a long period of time. You have to be patient though as it may take a few months before you see some notable results especially if you are trying to tackle fine lines and wrinkles.
The serum has a pleasant rose scent but it doesn’t absorb that quickly as it’s totally oil-based. You can apply makeup on top but you will have to wait a bit before your skin is ready.
A 10ml glass bottle will last you for a long time as you only need one drop for one application so there won’t be a need to buy a new bottle every few months.
Overall, it’s a lovely product, well worth trying; at least it made some difference to my eye area, as opposed to some eye creams that I’ve tried in the past which didn’t really do anything.
