Glossworks Nail Polish Review (Blush + Name of the Rose)

Glossworks nail polishes

I am not the kind of girl that would spend lots of time on nails as it’s really not important to me as it takes time but recently I decided to find some good nail polish colours that I could use once in a while on special occasions.

I am personally not a fan of darker colours for my nails and I like lighter, pinkish tones so this is what I’ve been exploring. I’ve already had one nail polish from Glossworks at home which I received a long time ago in one of the LoveLula beauty boxes so I thought to get another one from the same brand (this was kindly gifted to me as part of LoveLula Blogger Accredited Program).

About Glossworks

Glossworks are a brand that offers a variety of nail polish colours (in darker and lighter shades) and all of their nail polishes are free from 9 of the harmful ingredients normally found in conventional nail polishes.

The brand doesn’t test on animals and their polishes are suitable for vegans.

These polishes still contain certain ingredients which are not all that natural but they are still better for you as you are avoiding some of the pretty harmful ingredients such as Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, DBP, Camphor, Xylene, Ethyl Tosylamide and Lead. Many of these ingredients are irritants and have been even linked to cancer so if you can avoid them you are doing something good for your body.

The two shades from Glossworks that I’ve managed to test so far are: Name of the Rose and Blush.

Glossworks Name of the Rose Review

I would not personally select this colour myself but it’s been sent to me in LoveLula Beauty Box so I decided to try it. ‘Name of the Rose’ colour is quite strong and you only need one coat to make an impact. I’ve been using it mostly on my toes in summer and I must say it does look great. It’s a pink tone, quite dark, with a bit of red behind it but it doesn’t look too red. It looks more pink than red. On the LoveLula website, it looked a little bit different than it looks in reality. I will take a picture of how it looks on my nails very soon so you get a better idea of the colour.

What I really like about this colour is that it stays intact on my toenails for a long time. The colour stayed a strong shade and a little bit shiny for the duration of my one-week holiday in summer. It doesn’t crack in water and over time it slowly starts to chip and peel. What I would do if I noticed any signs of chipping is I would just apply another coat and it would look perfect again.

I cannot say that this nail polish was long-lasting on my fingernails as well and I know why. I think I just use my hands too much for things that probably no nail polish could cope with. I lift weights and when I do that it’s really easy to chip my nails. Then the housework I do, typing, etc. It all adds up and after around 2-3 days I would definitely notice the colour slowly coming off and that’s when I could apply another coat or start from scratch. It may help to apply the top coat but I could never bother with that. Who has the time? And I am not sure whether it would make too much difference although some people say it does help.

Anyway, my conclusion was that this was a great nail polish colour at the end, although a little bit strong, but looking great on toenails. It would also look great for Chrismas, Valentine’s Day and other special occasions. Of course, you can use it any time, it really depends on your preference.

Glossworks Nail Polish in Blush Review

The other Glossworks shade that I tried is called the “Blush” and I picked this one as I was looking for a colour to match with flowers on my wedding day. The colour was unfortunately not a good match and overall I didn’t get on with this nail polish.

Glossworks’ Blush is a milky, pastel pink which is really light. It actually doesn’t look bad on pictures and some people will find it lovely but for the purpose I needed it, it didn’t work. I think it was too milky and not pink enough. On the LoveLula website, the colour looked almost spot on (or maybe not quite?) but when I applied it to my nails, I expected a different effect, maybe a little bit less pastel and milky? I don’t know, it just wasn’t for me.

I also struggled with consistency. When applying it to my nails it was difficult to make the colour look even (you may be able to see this in one of the pictures). It was coming out streaky but I was able to fix this by applying 2-3 coats and then it would look fine. This colour is certainly not as opaque as ‘Name of the Rose’ and that’s probably the reason why I was struggling with it.

I decided to look online about the streaky finish and discovered that this happens quite commonly with pastel colours. To prevent this from happening, it’s recommended to roll the nail polish between your hands for 30 seconds to prevent bubbles. Then, when applying the nail polish, you should apply enough polish to cover the nail but not go back over the polish with the brush as this will cause streaking. These are definitely some useful tips which I will try next time with this shade. I certainly haven’t been doing things right so it’s probably my own inexperience with nail polishes that caused the streaky finish, rather than anything else!

Glossworks 3-in-1

Here I also wanted to mention a 3-in-1 multifunctional product from Glossworks which I also tried (only a few times though).

This product is designed to act as a base coat, top coat or as a hardener. I’ve used it once as a base coat and I am not sure whether it’s making any difference. I like it the most just on its own – it just adds a little bit of shine to your nails while you are having a break from nail polishes. It’s very quick to apply and dries quickly so not much fuss which I love. I cannot be bothered to use it as a top coat but I may give it a try one day when I have a little bit more time.

So these are my honest thought about Glossworks as a brand and their (more) natural nail polishes. I think they have a good selection of colours so you should be able to find something that you like.
