I am now at this age when I feel I should be using anti-ageing face moisturisers. Although it does sound a little bit bad if I think about it… I don’t feel really that old (or look like it) but I think it’s time… Time to regularly use natural products that work on fine lines and help to slow down the ageing. I mean, who doesn’t want to look younger, as long as possible?? I certainly do. Although I only have a few lines on my forehead, barely visible but still, I am now more than ever interested in anti-ageing face moisturisers that could help me stay looking younger for longer.
So recently I spent some time researching the best natural anti-ageing moisturisers on the market today and decided to pick some from LoveLula as part of their LoveLula Blogger Accredited Program. I’ve been testing these natural face creams in the past few months and here is how I got on and my thoughts about them (ok, some of them I haven’t tested this year and some not at all, but I have still included them):
Odylique Timeless Rose Moisturiser
Odylique Rose moisturiser is a natural organic moisturiser that I’ve actually tested last year but I still wanted to include it in this roundup as it’s one of my favourite natural moisturisers. It’s light, 100% natural and made with 94.14% organic ingredients. It’s suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and mature.
It works great as a day cream and since it’s high in antioxidants it helps to reduce fine lines and counteract the ageing.
This organic moisturiser contains soothing and regenerative organic rose and sea buckthorn extract, both promoting cell renewal and smoother skin.
I think this is a perfect natural moisturiser for summer as it’s light, non-greasy and quick to absorb. It can also be used as an eye cream which is one of the main reasons why I bought it in the first place.
Odylique Timeless Rose Moisturiser comes in 50ml glass bottle (with recyclable cap) and it’s available from LoveLula for £23.00 (free worldwide delivery).
Earth Mother Soul Sister Rosehip & Starflower Face Cream
I found Rosehip & Starflower Face cream from Earth Mother Soul Sister really interesting – it’s light yet really nourishing, more than Odylique’s Rose moisturiser. It’s vegan, certified organic by the Soil Association and suitable for sensitive skin. It’s great for those who suffer from dry patches as it’s so nourishing. So if you have a combination skin with a bit of dryness, this is perfect. But an oily type of skin may find it a little bit too rich.
Rosehip & Starflower Face cream is very easy to spread and it almost feels like a liquid. You only need a little bit for the whole face so this cream should last you for a while. It’s quick to absorb and you can easily put a makeup on top afterwards.
The main anti-ageing ingredients found in this natural face cream are rosehip oil and starflower oil. Rosehip oil helps to refine and smooth fine lines while starflower oil offers maximum quantities of GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid).
GLA is important for the maintenance of healthy skin and can help to treat dry skin and various skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis and acne. So if you have a combination skin which is prone to breakouts (like me) then this is not a bad face cream to try. However, I think it’s probably more suitable to use in autumn/winter than summer as it’s so nourishing but it’s good to have it at hand if your skin changes a lot due to hormonal imbalances or a bad diet.
Another anti-ageing ingredient which you will find in this natural face cream is frankincense essential oil which is known to prevent wrinkles and tighten skin to naturally slow signs of ageing. This oil can also help to reduce acne blemishes and the appearance of large pores.
Earth Mother Soul Sister Rosehip & Starflower Face Cream comes in 55ml bottle and is available from LoveLula for £28.
Laidbare Guess My Age Anti-Ageing Face Cream
I really like Laidbare as a brand as they offer some really affordable natural skincare products so in my quest to find a natural and affordable anti-ageing face cream I decided to try their Guess My Age Anti-Ageing Face Cream.
I previously tried Laidbare Working 9 to 5 Anti-ageing Hydration cream but I didn’t love it. This is a very light moisturiser and despite its anti-ageing ingredients (Gotu Kola Extract and Iceland Moss Extract) I didn’t feel it was doing much for my skin. It felt as if it wasn’t very concentrated (however, it would make a great summer moisturiser for combination/oily skin as it’s so light and easy to absorb). So I decided to try Laidbare Guess My Age Anti-Ageing Face Cream which, I was under the impression, was richer and better in terms of targeting fine lines and wrinkles.
I have mixed feelings about Guess My Age anti-ageing cream. The scent is just not something that I love about this face cream. It doesn’t smell natural to me, to be honest, and it’s difficult to describe but luckily it doesn’t linger on the skin.
What I do love about this cream is that when I use it in the evening and wake up in the morning, my skin feels so lovely and soft. So it must be doing something good overnight. I use it in the morning as well, sometimes under the make-up. It’s definitely more nourishing than Working 9 to 5 cream, maybe because it has an addition of Exotic Passion Flower Oil.
Passion Flower Oil has a light texture and contains a high content of essential fatty acids which help to keep skin hydrated, nourished and younger looking.
The Laidbare Guess My Age cream is suitable for vegans and can be used by all ages – whether you are just starting to detect the first few fine lines, or whether you have deeper, more established wrinkles. The cream is suitable for dry skin, mature and combination type. Oily skin will find it probably a little bit too heavy.
Make sure you apply this cream regularly, in the morning and at night, to see any visible effects over time.
Just to mention that this cream contains palm oil which I know some people won’t be happy to hear about.
The cream comes in a 50ml plastic jar and it’s available from LoveLula for £9.99.
PHB Ethical Beauty Anti-Ageing Moisturiser with Monoi Oil and Gardenia
I only got myself a trial size of this face moisturiser from PHB Ethical Beauty but it was enough to test it out fully over many weeks.
I decided to give this a go after reading all the information and reviews about it online and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. I was really impressed with this natural moisturiser actually. When I first started using it I could see a difference on my face straight away – fine lines seemed to have been softened as soon as I have applied it and when this moisturiser is used regularly, it feels like I can really keep control of my fine lines, delaying any further ageing.
I am not the only one feeling the benefits of this natural moisturiser though.
VOGUE Magazine said the following:
The texture, scent and noticeable results will leave you astounded (Best Kept Beauty Secrets 2014)
What’s more, this moisturiser won The Green Parent Natural Beauty Award in 2016 as the best day moisturiser.
PHB Anti-Ageing Moisturiser is suitable for all skin types but especially for dry, combination and more mature types. That’s because it’s really nourishing, full of essential vitamins, antioxidants and omegas which help to combat any dry patches. Its gentle formula is also suitable for sensitive skin.
The main formula in the moisturiser, a blend of gardenia flowers and coconut oil, helps to replenish skin, restore elasticity, improve firmness and regenerate cells for a natural healthy glow.
This cream is free from Parabens, Artificial Fragrance & Colours, Mineral Oils, Palm Oil & Phenoxyethanol. It’s certified vegan and cruelty-free.
If you want to try PHB Anti-Ageing Moisturiser, you can get yourself a travel size tube for £5.95 (15ml) or you could buy a full-size version that comes in a jar – £17.95 for 50ml.
Esse Probiotic Skincare Hydro Moisturiser
When I first heard of Esse Probiotic Skincare I was quite intrigued. Probiotics? On the skin? How does that work? Further research told me that our skin can benefit from good bacteria as well (probiotics are not only good for our gut health!). To summarise this concept, it’s better for your skin if you have more good bacteria on and in it. This helps to slow down the ageing as pathogenic microbes damage skin cells. You can learn more about probiotics from this video from Esse:
Hydro Moisturiser from Esse Probiotic Skincare is vegan and certified organic by ECOCERT. It’s great for sensitive skin and suitable for normal, combination, acne-prone and oily type of skin.
The Hydro Moisturiser uses an extract of probiotic Lactobacillus species which improves beneficial microbial populations on the skin. This balances the skin moisture, particularly in T-zone area.
This moisturiser also contains prebiotics (Inulin, α-glucanoligosaccharides) which improve roughness and redness and reduce irritation in sensitive skin.
In addition to probiotics and prebiotics, Esse Hydro Moisturiser also has an addition of Hyaluronic Acid which is known to retain skin moisture and revitalize the skin’s outer layers so they look and feel softer and smoother. This instantly improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
It feels pure luxury using Esse Hydro Moisturiser. The scent is pleasant and not overpowering and the formula feels really luxurious. The moisturiser is quite thick but easy to spread. It’s not greasy at all and skin feels lovely and soft to the touch after the application. This moisturiser can easily be used under the makeup as it’s quick to absorb. This is perfect for oily and combination skin, not heavy at all. If your skin is dry and sensitive, Esse Nourish Moisturiser is the one to go for as it’s more nourishing.
I haven’t been using Esse Hydro Moisturiser for a very long time but the first impressions are very good. When I wake up in the morning, my skin feels softer and smoother and any breakouts/irritations seem to have been reduced overnight. I think over time, this moisturiser will really help to counteract the signs of ageing but for now it’s still early days and the difference is subtle. You can get it directly from Esse’s website, just make sure you use a code WELCOME20 to get 20% discount.
Neal’s Yard Remedies Anti-ageing Face Moisturisers
I am a big fan of natural face moisturisers from Neal’s Yard Remedies and I’ve been buying them for years, mostly for my sister who couldn’t find something that would suit her very sensitive skin but the moisturisers from NYR are perfect for her.
In the beginning, I was buying my sister Frankincense Hydrating Cream which is suitable for all skin types and contains rejuvenating frankincense and myrrh essential oils. But with time my sister’s skin needed something a little bit more nourishing so I got her Frankincense Nourishing Cream which also contains frankincense and myrrh but it’s richer. This cream is especially suitable for dry and mature skin but I think if you have a very dry skin, this may not be enough. My sister complained to me that this cream wasn’t enough for her dry skin in winter, but I think if she used it with a facial oil this would work totally fine for her.
Neal’s Yard Remedies also have Frankincense Intense™ range which I believe it’s suitable for women 40+ and I am really interested to get Frankincense Intense™ Cream for my sister in the future as this is an award-winning moisturiser that’s been proven to work on ageing skin as it helps to tone, plump and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Other anti-ageing face creams worth considering
I have only touched a tip of an iceberg with this post. There are so many other natural face moisturisers that I would love to try and some of them that I came across recently would be great for my sister’s dry skin, for example:
- Rossi Uvema Astragalus & Shisandra Face Moisturiser – 50ml for £19.95 (good for dry and more mature skin, suitable as a leave-on night cream)
- Antipodes Rejoice Light Organic Day Cream – 60ml for £25.99 (light and non-oily facial organic day cream with collagen boosting powers)
- Madara Deep Moisture Cream – 50ml for £27.00 (rich, ultra-nourishing moisturiser for dry skin, smooths the skin)
- Green People Age Defy+ 24 Hour Brightening Moisturiser – 30ml for £36.00 (anti-wrinkle moisturiser with age-spot reduction)
- Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Day Cream – 30ml for £22.95 (for normal to dry skin, softens fine lines)
- Weleda Pomegranate Firming Night Cream – 30ml for £28.50 (night-time regeneration after the age of 40, with antioxidant cell protection; vegan)
These are just some of the natural anti-ageing face moisturisers worth considering and I hope one of them will the right one for your skin type.
It’s actually quite difficult for me to decide which one is my favourite (out of the ones that I’ve tried) as all of them have certain properties which I love. Esse Hydro moisturiser is definitely a special one and it stands out due to its unique properties with a focus on probiotics. And Odylique Rose Moisturiser is such a lovely face cream, great for summer months.
I think if you were going to pick one of these face creams, you have to think about what your skin really needs (apart from anti-ageing ingredients). Is your skin sensitive and needs something that won’t irritate it? Is it prone to breakouts? Do you suffer from dry patches? Of course, the season also needs to be taken into consideration as you may want to have something heavier in winter and something lighter in summer. Although you can always have a few different face creams at home which you use as and when needed.
Have you tried any of these natural anti-ageing face creams? What is your favourite anti-ageing face moisturiser?
